150px-Mitsubaaoi

All tests in the Jizaikan are 100% pass or fail tests designed to aid the student in mastery of the material at every level which helps maintain integrity within the belt system.

Students must demonstrate verbal knowledge to include Japanese names, English translations and principles as well as internalize and show competent physical skill in the following areas:

Koto Ryu Shoden Scroll
Yo Kuto / Ogyakku / Ko Yoku / Shi To / Ho Soku / Ho Teki / Sha To / Ke To / Sakugeki / Tan Geki / Batsu Gi / Setto / Shi Haku / Kyo Gi / Kakko / Ura Nami / Ten Chi / Kata Maki

Kuki Shin Ryu Kuji No Bo
Dai Ippo / Dai Niho / Dai Sanpo / Dai Yonpo / Dai Goho / Dai Roppo / Dai Nanaho / Dai Happo / Dai Ryuho

Students can also be asked to show any material from the Shodan Test

Phase One
Students must show 12 of the 18 kata from the Koto Ryu Shoden Scroll and 6 of the 9 kata from the Kuji No Bo.  These techniques are randomly chosen by the testing board.  Upon being asked, students must provide the English translation of the name as well as the principle that the technique is teaching.

Phase Two
Students must perform unarmed Randori “free response” and show techniques that are called out by the testing board as multiple attackers are coming in.  This ensures that the student has internalized the material and can use it under stress.

Phase Three
Students must show strategy with the Bo staff while doing Randori “free response” against multiple sword attackers.

Phase Four
Students must answer a series of questions about the history of the Koto Ryu system and comparisons between the Koto Ryu unarmed techniques and the Kuji No Bo system.

Example questions:
1.  Which Kuji No Bo kata has the same principle as Setto?
2.  Name 2 Koto Ryu kata that employ the principle taught by Kuji No Bo Dai Goho
